    Galway Airport & Getting Around

    - Galway Airport -

Galway Airport is located 8 kilometres east of Galway and offers scheduled services connecting the city with other major airports in Ireland, major airports in Britain and a small number of Continental European destinations. Aer Arann operate four daily services to Dublin, twice daily to London, ten weekly to Manchester, as well as Edinburgh, Cardiff, Leeds Bradford, Cork and Lorient (Brittany). Flybe, one of Europe's leading low cost airlines, operates services to Belfast City, Southampton and Birmingham. Public transportation links from Galway Airport to Galway itself aren’t great, with only one bus per day, departing the city bus station at 12.50 and returning from the airport at 13.25. A taxi will cost about €15.00.

    - Shannon Airport -

Shannon Airport and Ireland West Airport Knock are quite a bit further from Galway (at 90 kilometres and 86 kilometres respectively), but both have frequent flights from Continental Europe and North America. Shannon Airport offers an hourly bus service to Galway, with a journey time of around 90 minutes.

    - Trains -

Iarnród Éireann, the Republic of Ireland's national rail operator, runs six return passenger services each day between Dublin and Galway’s main railway station, Ceannt Station. Travel time (with stops at intermediate stations) is just under 3 hours.

    - General Transport -

The easiest way to get around central Galway is on foot, but if you need to go further afield, both Bus Éireann and CityLink provide services throughout the city. There are 16 bus routes serving Galway and its suburbs. There will be more routes in the near future thanks to the €1 billion Ceannt Station Quarter and public transport development plan.
